Recently built raised ranch sets itself apart
60 Woodbine Drive, Mahopac NY
There are currently over three dozen raised ranches on the Mahopac realty market.
Liz Skrodelis has been selling homes in the area for almost a decade, and knows just how difficult it can be to make one of these homes stand out to potential buyers. Still, she's confident that 60 Woodbine Drive, with its two-level yard and ample rock gardens, will stand out to someone soon.
Built into half an acre of hillside, the house blends into its natural settings, as it sits on a hilltop, which continues up into the backyard. "It is not a flat, boring backyard," Skrodelis said. "In the summer, the flowers between the rocks are in full bloom, providing a beautiful nature setting."
The family that previously occupied the house, Oliver and Bronwyn Knesl, loved the backyard and were sold on it immediately. Hailing from New Zealand originally, the couple left Mahopac because of a job relocation, but they were very sad to leave.
The lower back deck of the home looks up onto the rock gardens, where the couple's two young children often played, and is connected to a raised deck, which is perfect for outdoor entertaining. When the children weren't exploring the gardens, they could play in the raised play-set and swing-set that is also featured in the backyard. The yard is fenced-in, with added safety for small children, and the house is in a very friendly, safe neighborhood, right near Route 6 and just 10 minutes from the Croton Falls train station.
Inside, the house sets itself apart from other raised ranches by being relatively new, with modern amenities. While this house was built in 1997, most raised ranches were built in the 1960s and '70s. This shines through in the large eat-in kitchen, which features plenty of counter and cabinet space, and bright tiled floors. The rest of the house, including the formal dining room, features hardwood floors.
The kitchen opens up into the family room, with its large windows, sliding door entrance to the deck, and brick fireplace. The room, like the rest of the house, is spacious, warm and bright, and is open and airy enough that it could hold almost any décor style appropriately.
The home contains three large bedrooms, along with an office/den that could easily be used as a fourth bedroom. The master bedroom features a private master bath, and there is one additional bathroom with full bathtub.
The house, with its multitude of windows and unique property, is connected to the beauty of nature throughout each room. With light streaming in on all sides, the house is always warm and bright. As Skrodelis puts it, "the whole house feels sunny, even on a rainy day."
